The Bébour–Bélouve primary forest spreads across what was once the island’s fourth cirque, now filled in by ancient lava flows. This unique area has become a natural sponge and a sanctuary for endemic species.
We’ll leave early to stay ahead of the clouds — the road is long to reach the edge of the Bélouve plateau, overlooking the Salazie cirque.
Our first stop is near the Bébourg lodge, where we’ll enjoy a short walk on the botanical trail, discovering local species and understanding the ecological value of this forest.
We then return to the lovely village of Plaine des Palmistes and stop at the Domaine des Tourelles, housed in a beautiful Creole villa — a real “change of air”.
Afterward, we head to the port of Sainte-Rose to take in the wild East coast.
Next stop: the iconic Notre-Dame des Laves church, which survived the 1977 lava flow. We’ll also visit the permanent exhibition about this extraordinary event.
Picnic break at the lush and peaceful bay of Anse des Cascades.
On our way back north, we’ll stop at the beautiful church of Sainte-Anne before returning to the hotel.
